After registering a new vCenter, the vCenter connection status is shown to be "DISCONNECTED," and presents an error message such as "MalformedURLException: Please check that the IP that you provided is entered correctly." This error typically occurs when the IP address provided on the vCenter registration form is mistyped.
To verify the IP address, open the Command Prompt and run a ping command on the IP address. If the IP address is correct, you'll receive a ping response announcing success, including number of packets sent and received, and the response time in milliseconds.
If the IP address is incorrect, you will receive a failure response: Ping request could not find host <vcenter_ip_address>. Please check the name and try again.
Contact your network administrator to obtain the correct IP address for your vCenter machine.
