How do I prepare Dropbox as the Destination for a Document Migration?

Answer:

To prepare Dropbox as a Destination for a Document Migration project, complete the steps below:

Step 1: Invite users to join the Dropbox account.

To add users to a Dropbox account, you must first send invitations to their email addresses. Users are only added to the Dropbox account when they accept their invitations. Users who have not accepted their invitations are shown as pending in the Dropbox Admin Console. Follow the steps in the Invite Your Team article from Dropbox to learn how to invite users to join a Dropbox account.

We recommend that you wait for all users to accept their Dropbox invitations before you start the migration. Shared folder permissions are not recreated in Dropbox as part of the migration for users who have not accepted their invitations. If you start the migration before all users accept their invitations, their folders and files are still migrated to Dropbox, but permissions for folders they shared or folders shared with them are not recreated in Dropbox as part of the migration.

Step 2: Confirm all users accepted their Dropbox invitations before starting the migration.

You can view the number of pending Dropbox invitations and send invitation reminders from the Dropbox Admin Console. Follow the steps in the What is a pending or invalid invite? article from Dropbox to learn more.

You are ready to start the Document Migration once the number of pending invites is shown as zero in the Dropbox Admin console, as shown below.

Refer to the Migration Guides for more information about performing a Document Migration with Dropbox as a Destination.
