​​HealthCheck for Azure Assess Glossary

The terms below are commonly used within the HealthCheck for Azure Assessment Dashboard. 

Compute Terms

  • Hierarchy
    • Asset User-defined grouping of assets
    • Component: Name of this machine or a subgroup of machines within an Asset
    • Resource Pool:  vCenter-specified groupings of Virtual Machines
  • Instance Type
    • Node Name:  Your given machine name
    • OS: Installed Operating System on the machine
    • On-Time (%): The amount of time that the machine has been observed powered-on
    • Instance Type: Predicted instance type under the current plan
    • EBS Optimized: Expected values are True or False. If the value is set to "True", the Instance will require Provisioned IOPS to be purchased. The cost for EBS Optimized instance is already factored into the instance cost.
    • Bottleneck: Where the observed bottleneck is: CPU, Memory, or both. For example, if the CPU is a bottleneck, that will mean that you can't get any cheaper machine because of CPU requirements 
  • CPU Threads
    • Observed: The number of cores/threads on the observed machine
    • Instance: Number of cores/threads on the predicted machine that is mapped under the plan.
  • Peak CPU Utilization
    • Observed (%): This is a 95th percentile of five-minute peak CPU utilization observed over the assessment period.
    • Predicted (%): This is a 95th percentile of predicted five-minute peak CPU utilization while mapping to a Cloud instance.
    • SLT (%): Service Level Target to be set on the Peak CPU Utilization. Typically the SLT is set to 60%, which means that 95% of the time, the peak CPU Utilization should be less than 60% while mapping the machine.
  • Observed Memory
    • Allocated (GB): This is allocated to memory on the observed machine
    • Peak Used (GB): This is peak memory used on the observed machine
  • Instance Memory
    • Available (GB): Amount of physical memory available on the predicted instance type
    • Target Max (GB): Maximum allowable usage of memory on the predicted instance type. This includes disk cache, and can be greater than total available memory.
  • Annual Cost
    • Region: The IaaS provider region where infrastructure is mapped
    • Pricing Plan: The type of pricing plan from the IaaS provider
    • Cost ($): The annual cost under this plan

Storage Terms

  • Hierarchy
    • Asset: User-defined grouping of assets
    • Component: Name of this asset
    • Resource Pool: vCenter groupings of Virtual Machines
  • Info
    • VM: Your given machine name
    • vDisk
      • VMWare: Virtual Disk Name
    • Details
      • Mount point C:, /home
  • Observed Storage
    • vDisk Capacity (GB): The allocated capacity of the observed disk
    • vDisk Occupancy (GB): The occupied capacity of the observed disk
  • General Purpose SSD
    • Number of Volumes: Total Number of SSDs volumes required for IOPS workload
    • Required Capacity (GB): Total amount of capacity required for SSD storage
  • Cloud Storage
    • Cloud Capacity (GB): Predicted required Cloud storage
    • Cost ($): The total cost of storage for this device
  • IOPS
    • Requests/Month (Millions): Total observed IOPS requests in millions per month
    • Peak IOPS/Second: Total observed peak IOPS requests per second
    • Provisioned (IOPS/Second): Total predicted provisioned IOPS required per second
    • IOPS Cost ($): The total IOPS cost
  • Annual Cost
    • Region: The IaaS provider region where infrastructure is mapped
    • Cost ($): The total annual cost of storage

Network Terms

  • Hierarchy
    • Asset: User-defined grouping of assets
    • Component: Name of this asset
    • Resource Pool: vCenter groupings of Virtual Machines
  • Instance Type
    • VM: Your given machine name
    • Instance Type: Predicted instance type under the current plan
  • Network Utilization
    • GB/Month: Total GB sent or received over the month. There is no distinction made between internal vs external traffic; all network traffic is considered external, and the cost is based on that.
    • Predicted Peak (%): Predicted peak utilization of this node's network throughput
  • Annual Cost
    • Region: The IaaS provider region where infrastructure is mapped
    • Cost ($): Total annual cost to support network throughput
